HISTORY OF THE GAMABA ARTIST TALENT

Eduardo Mutuc was a 29-year old farmer who was working his way on finding a better source of income for his growing family. Only having finished elementary school, he didn’t see much opportunity for him; that was until a year later, when a friend of his introduced and taught him the art of “Pinukpuk” or silver plating, a method of designing and sculpting artworks and ornaments onto a silver plate. He pursued his newfound craft then, along with his friend, started their own workshop.

 KEEPING THE SILVER GLEAMING

Eduardo “Jun” Mutuc, Jr. is the son of the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan or the National Living Treasure awardee Eduardo Mutuc. At a very young age, Jun, among all his brothers and sisters, showed interest in the metal craftsmanship of his father. Over the years, he has worked side by side with his father and gradually mastered the techniques. The first thing he learned was how to hold the chisel and the hammer properly to promote ease of use and prevent fatigue and mistakes because of improper handling.

With his father’s guidance, Jun represents the promising future of religious and secular metalwork in the province.
